Jeep Wrangler Door Surround
Patented CPI Compression Transfer Molding Technology..Proven in Automotive Door Rail Application
Rigorous OEM Design Criteria… Stringent performance criteria established by the OEM for a new thermoplastic composite door rail design caused Bestop, Inc., a major Tier 1 automotive supplier, to search out and identify a molder capable of providing new technology to satisfy their needs. CPI, working jointly with Bestop, Inc., successfully developed compression transfer molding technology to produce the reticulated door rail assembly.
Materials Selection Compliments Design... The design incorporates molded-in threaded inserts, a stainless steel pivot pin and stainless steel locator pin to facilitate ease of vehicle installation and provide the ability to fold the part for compact storage. The door rail assembly is attached to the “sports bar” of a sport utility vehicle with specialized hardware. The door rail must provide a weather tight seal at the center folding joint, door contact area and molded lip attachment point for the convertible top. The inherent dimensional stability of the thermoplastic composite material allows the complete assembly to successfully pass high pressure water infiltration testing.
Aesthetics With Outdoor Durability... In normal use, a door rail assembly is fully exposed on the exterior of the vehicle, emphasizing the need for a molded part with automotive quality surface appearance. Additionally, the thermoplastic composite must withstand exposure to ultraviolet radiation and a broad spectrum of automotive solvents, oils and cleaning materials without demonstrating a significant color shift for a minimum period of five years. CPI combines materials, compounding and molding expertise to produce a molded part with exceptional aesthetic quality, outdoor durability and chemical resistance.
